Single Financial Market in Europe

On 12 May 2026, the Ambassador Insider Series convened a closed-door session in Brussels on the Single Financial Market in Europe, bringing together ambassadors, policymakers, and financial sector experts for a focused discussion on the future of European financial integration.

The exchange featured Edwin De Pauw, Head of Compliance & Public Affairs at Euroclear, and Vincent Ingham, Director of Regulatory Policy at the European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA), who shared their perspectives on the evolving regulatory and economic dynamics shaping Europe’s financial landscape.

The discussion explored the importance of strengthening Europe’s Single Financial Market to improve cross-border investment, enhance competitiveness, and support long-term economic resilience. Key themes included market fragmentation, regulatory harmonisation, capital markets integration, and the role of financial infrastructure in supporting a more interconnected European economy.

Participants also examined how financial policy intersects with broader priorities such as sustainability, digital transformation, and Europe’s strategic autonomy in an increasingly competitive global environment. The conversation underscored the importance of coordination between policymakers, regulators, and market participants to support a more efficient and resilient financial system.

Overall, the session provided a forward-looking and substantive exchange on the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of Europe’s financial market within a format designed to encourage focused dialogue among senior stakeholders.
