The latest session of the Ambassador Insider Series focused on EU Security and Defence, convening ambassadors, policymakers, and experts for a closed-door discussion in Brussels.
The exchange featured Javier Colomina, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood, and Prof. Dr. Sven Biscop, an expert in European strategy and international security. The discussion examined current geopolitical developments, with particular attention to NATO’s engagement in the Southern Neighbourhood and the evolving role of the European Union in security and defence.
The conversation addressed how regional dynamics are shaping security priorities, as well as the relationship between European initiatives and transatlantic frameworks. Participants explored the challenges of maintaining strategic coherence while responding to diverse and rapidly changing threats.
Attention was also given to the practical implications of policy decisions, including coordination across institutions and the need to balance national interests with collective approaches. The discussion reflected the broader reality that security and defence policy in Europe is increasingly influenced by both internal developments and external pressures.
Overall, the session provided a structured exchange on key strategic questions currently facing European and allied actors, within a format designed to facilitate focused and substantive discussion.
